A World in Platinum: The Communication 45 Returns
JULY 2026: This summer, the Communication 45 appears for the first time in platinum, offered in three series of 15, one each for Europe, Asia and the Americas, making 45 pieces in all.
We introduced the Communication 45 last year to mark 45 years since Svend founded the brand. It takes its inspiration from the original Communication of 1990, the watch that first established our worldtimers, and carries forward much of what made that piece so admired: beautiful case-work, shapely, curvaceous lugs, and a hugely elegant style. In yellow gold, with its cognac-toned BlueGold dial and continents inlaid in gold, it drew a warmth of response from collectors and press that told us it was worth returning to.
This platinum edition is that return.

Where last year's watch spoke in warm cognac and yellow gold, this one is composed of deep blue and white gold. A platinum case houses a BlueGold dial fired to our signature midnight tone, with a world map inlaid in white gold. It is a cooler, more nocturnal reading of the same watch.
The classical worldtime architecture is unchanged: a 24-hour rotating ring, a full circle of 24 cities in our elegant, bespoke new typeface, and two crowns in the Louis Cottier tradition, with city selection at 9 o'clock and winding and setting at 3. Geneva, as always, is marked by our 'A'.
Platinum asks a great deal of those who work it. Denser and harder than gold, and inclined to gum up the tooling, it requires the greatest skills of our in-house case-making team. Each case is made entirely by hand in our La Chaux-de-Fonds atelier under the guidance of Marco Poluzzi, 83. The lugs, in a voluptuous reimagining of the teardrop form created by Jean-Pierre Hagmann for the 1990 Communication, are shaped and polished individually before being soldered to the case with absolute precision.

The dial features our signature tapisserie engraving, created on a nineteenth-century pantographe machine featuring an antique, wave-form template Svend discovered more than thirty years ago. Its continents are etched to a depth of 0.2mm and filled with unalloyed white gold, a process that was developed especially for the Communication 45 model. This is a slow and exacting process, creating an effect in which the deep blue tapisserie sea stands in beautiful contrast to the continental maps.

Within sits an ultra-slim automatic movement, assembled hand-finished in our Geneva workshops, and paired with the latest evolution of Svend's own worldtime module. The rotor, too, is in tapisserie-engraved BlueGold, matching the dial.
